Butler earned $1 million with the Royals decision to decline the option. In 151 games with the Royals last season, Butler hit .271 with nine home runs and 66 runs batted-in. The season marked the first that Butler was not able to hit at least 15 home runs and 70 RBI since 2009. He appeared in 37 games as a first baseman but the Royals primarily used Butler as a DH in 2014.
